Captain David Haas passed away on July 28, 2012, while on duty with the U.S. Army in South Korea. David relocated from Newport News, Virginia with his family to Brunswick Maine in 1987. He attended Jordan Acres Elementary School, Brunswick Junior High School, and Brunswick High School, graduating as President of the Class of 2001.
David won an Army ROTC scholarship to attend the University of Richmond in Virginia. After graduation, David accepted a Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, and was twice deployed to Iraq. David loved public service and was planning to become a high school counselor or teacher when his military career was complete.
It is the hope of all those who loved and miss David that in his honor we can pass along and continue David’s spirit of public service and generosity. Awards from this fund are based on student financial need, after which recipients are requested to be Brunswick High School graduates, to include Brunswick graduates of Maine Region Ten Technical High School.
