Brendan J. Keating Memorial Fund

Brendan Keating PhotoBrendan J. Keating was born in 1991 in Bath, Maine, son of Thomas J. Keating and P. Lynn Ouellette, and grew up in Brunswick. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 2009 along with his twin brother Ryan; his sister Katie also attended Brunswick High School.

Brendan is remembered as a spirited young boy with a great sense of humor who approached life with enthusiasm and gusto. He was a talented athlete, having played soccer and lacrosse from a young age until high school and excelled as a goalie in lacrosse. He was also an avid snowboarder, basketball player and disc golfer.

Brendan was more at home working with his hands than in the classroom which led him to take vocational courses in high school and later to attend the Maine School of Masonry. He was proud to be a mason and particularly enjoyed stonework which benefited his family in the form of a beautiful stone patio and garden walkway at their home.

Brendan died unexpectedly and tragically in December of 2013, a short time before what would have been his twenty-third birthday. His absence is felt by many former classmates of Brunswick High School, friends, and most especially his family. As a tribute to him and in his honor, this scholarship fund was created by his family to support a high school graduate of the greater Brunswick area who wishes to pursue a career in masonry or in any of the vocational trades. Brendan would be proud to be passing on his love of masonry and of honoring the value of those students who are skilled at working with their hands who wish to attend masonry school or a technical institute for their secondary education.
