For over 30 years, Joe Guest was a school counselor, a confidant and an advocate for adolescents, helping them grow through difficult times. He spent the last 21 years of his career at Brunswick High School and dedicated himself to the students, staff and programs of the school.
A granite bench dedicated to Joe, placed outside the entrance of the Brunswick High Counseling Office, says it all: “REMEMBERED FOR HIS PLAYFUL SENSE OF HUMOR, UNWAVERING PATIENCE AND EYES FILLED WITH KINDNESS”.
Joe always saw the goodness in people and was passionate about education. His daughters Lindsay and Sarah grew up in Brunswick and his wife Nancy was also a school counselor in Brunswick for 25 years. With the help of Mike Halmo, his colleague and best friend, this fund was established in Joe’s name to assist students who are pursuing a career involved in helping others.
It is the wish of those who established the Joe Guest Memorial Fund that others will carry on his work and share his love of helping those in need. Awards from this fund are based on student financial need, after which recipients are requested to be graduates of Brunswick High School.
