Malcolm D. Clarke Memorial Fund

Malcolm D. Clarke was born in Putney Vermont in 1902 and educated at Boston Latin School, Dartmouth and Middlebury Colleges.  He devoted his life to teaching. He was a teacher and coach at private schools in California, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and New York. After retiring to Harpswell in 1963, Malcolm taught foreign languages at North Yarmouth Academy.

Malcolm served on the Harpswell and MSAD 75 school boards. He chaired the Feasibility Study Committee regarding the creation of MSAD 75 and Mt. Ararat High School and also chaired the MSAD 75 School Board.

A nationally ranked senior tennis player, Malcolm won the 1977 hard court title in the age 75 and older division. He was ranked number one nationally for four years in senior singles and for eight years in doubles. In 1991, he was inducted into the New England Tennis Hall of Fame. Malcolm passed away on September 28, 1998 at the age of 96.

Awards from this fund are based on student financial need, after which recipients are requested to be graduates of Mt. Ararat High School.
