How to Contribute

Thank you for considering a gift to the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund (BASAF). If you would like to discuss any of these options or your intentions, please contact the BASAF Treasurer.

Contributions By Check or Money Order

Make your check or money order payable to “Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund” or “BASAF,” and mail it to “BASAF, P.O. Box 867, Brunswick, ME 04011.”  If you would like your contribution to be applied to a specific Endowed Fund, please indicate this with your gift. (Note: Do not make checks payable directly to an Endowed Fund.) Click here to see our list of existing Endowed Funds.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)

For those age 70.5 and older, a QCD from an Individual Retirement Account could offer more significant income tax benefits than a regular contribution. Please consult your investment and tax advisors for guidance.

Memorial Contributions

Memorial contributions can be designated in an obituary or made in honor of a loved one. Suggested obituary language:

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund, P.O. Box 867, Brunswick, ME 04011, (checks payable to “BASAF”) or online using a credit card or Venmo at www.studentaidfund.org.

Contributions of Appreciated Securities

Donating publicly traded stocks, mutual funds, and other marketable securities can offer tax advantages. Please consult your financial and tax advisors before making such a gift. The BASAF Treasurer can provide transfer instructions.

Legacy and Estate Gifts

To include BASAF in your estate plans, we encourage you to consult with your estate planning attorney.

  • Wills and Trusts: You may designate BASAF as a beneficiary in your will or other trust documents.
  • Retirement & Investment Accounts: BASAF can be named as a beneficiary of retirement or investment accounts. Consult your estate planning and investment advisors for more information.

Charitable Trusts

BASAF can be designated as a charitable beneficiary in certain trust arrangements. Donors may name BASAF as:

  • the annuity recipient of a Charitable Lead Annuity Trust (CLAT), or
  • the remainder beneficiary of a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT).

Please consult with your legal, tax and financial advisors when considering these options.  The BASAF Treasurer can provide any necessary information.
