Kay E. George Award Fund

Kay E. George attended St. John’s School and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1956. Kay married Richard F. (Dick) George, Sr. in 1958 and raised four children who all attended Brunswick Schools and graduated from Brunswick High School.

She started her career in the Brunswick High School Guidance Office in 1966. Her duties included working with seniors, maintaining transcripts and grade point averages, planning graduation, and exposing students to scholarship opportunities. She was the Brunswick Area Supervisor of Testing for SAT and Advanced Placement Exams. In 1968, she became a Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund Board Member and continued in that role for 50 years. After working at Brunswick High School for 34 years, Kay retired in 2000. In her retirement, she continued working for the College Board Testing Program and chaperoned several class trips including ones to Italy, Greece, France, and Spain.

Kay and Dick were avid skiers, taking the family to Sugarloaf every weekend during winters since 1966. They took many trips in their motor home, including a cross-country trip in the summer of 1999. Kay and Dick were also long-time members of the Brunswick Golf Club.

The Brunswick High School Class of 1980 led the effort to establish this fund, using proceeds from their Annual Dragon Golf Scramble for Scholarships.

Awards from this fund are based on student financial need, after which recipients are requested to be graduates of Brunswick High School.
