Judy Kamin Award Fund

Judy Kamin was a teacher at Brunswick Junior High School and a past president of Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund.  She joined the BASAF Board in October of 1964 and served on the Board for a number of years.

Judy was born in 1928 in Brunswick and spent her childhood in Lisbon Falls. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1946 and Boston University in 1950.  Her lifelong love of learning also brought her to Le Cordon Bleu School of Cooking in London on a Blaine House Scholarship.

She was a home economics teacher at Brunswick Junior High School, where she passed on her caring spirit and cooking skills to countless students. She was particularly proud of her successful advocacy to add sex education to the school curriculum, a topic which many members of the Brunswick community remember and appreciate. Judy won unanimous approval from the school board at a time when such teaching was controversial.

The Board of Directors expressed their appreciation for her service by designating this award in her honor.  Judy passed away in January of 2024 at the age of 95.
