Dick George was born in Brunswick and graduated from Brunswick High in the Class of 1953. After two years of service in the U.S. Army, he had a long career in the insurance business, retiring in 1999. A “Sugarloafer” since 1966, Dick was an avid skier. He also enjoyed golf and traveling to Florida with his wife Kay in their motorhome. Dick passed away in 2003. The Richard F. George, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established by Dick’s family in 2005 by annually sponsoring The Dick George Memorial Golf Open at Country Fareways Par 3 Golf Course, in Bowdoin, Maine.
