StudentELIGIBILITY
All graduates of, or students about to graduate from, Brunswick High School and Mt. Ararat High School are eligible for up to two years’ need-based assistance to any accredited post-secondary institution. In addition, graduates of other secondary schools who are residents of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Brunswick, the Harpswells, or Topsham, or those residents who are home-schooled, are equally eligible.

APPLICATION PROCESS
No later than March 15 of each year of eligibility, students requesting assistance for the upcoming academic year must submit a completed copy of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to the Guidance Office of either Brunswick High School or Mt. Ararat High School, as appropriate. All qualifying applications are weighed solely on the basis of financial need, and it is the intent of the BASAF to offer financial aid to as many eligible students annually as available funds permit.

BENEFITS OF BRUNSWICK AREA STUDENT AID FUND SCHOLARSHIPS
Students who receive other local scholarships often find that their financial aid packages have been reduced by a percentage of the scholarship. However, recipients of Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund grants receive added value from their awards if they attend Collegiate Partner institutions. Collegiate Partners is a program of Scholarship America with participation of about five hundred colleges, universities, and other accredited institutions in the United States. To find out if a specific school is a Collegiate Partner, go to www.scholarshipamerica.org. and click on "Collegiate Partners."

Student Collegiate Partner institutions make the following commitments relating to undergraduate students:
  • Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund scholarships will be used to fill any unmet student need remaining after the institution’s financial aid package has been calculated.
  • When unmet need no longer exists, scholarships of up to $2,500 will be used to adjust the self-help portion of a student’s financial aid package, including loans and work/study.
Matching Collegiate Partners make further commitments to undergraduate students who have unmet need by agreeing to match a portion of scholarship awards coming to their campuses from Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund and other Dollars for Scholars chapters. These matching funds represent resources dedicated exclusively for this purpose and do not replace previously awarded institutional grants.
